Left Front candidate from West Tripura constituency Shankar Prasad Datta submitted his nomination paper to the Returning Officer on Tuesday. The former CPI (M) MLA and youth leader is first to file papers in the state which is going to witness a two-phase election. Election to the West Tripura constituency is slated for April 7 while April 12 is marked for poll in East Tripura (Tribal Reserved) constituency. Forest and Commerce Minister Jitendra Choudhury is contesting as Left candidate. The CPI (M) is ahead of opposition parties in campaigning in both the segments. The opposition parties including Congress, BJP, Trinamool Congress and others have announced their candidates, but yet to gear up electioneering.
