Left early this morning to catch a ferry to Railay Beach. Ferry - TopicsExpress

Left early this morning to catch a ferry to Railay Beach. Ferry ride across the bay took a couple of hours in the rain then it got interesting. We were met a couple hundred yards off shore by a long boat. We had to transfer us and our duffels to the long boat without falling into the bay. Then the longboat drove as close to the beach as it could get where we got off and WADED the rest of the way!!! Im way to old for this crap! Imagine me wading with my daypack around my neck carrying two 15 kg duffel bags to the beach. Now imagine Marilyn wading holding her daypack and the bag we carry our books in WITH HER CANE. We must have been quite a sight. Once on the beach--and was really only a few steps of wading--we started walking to our hotel when a porter from another hotel offed to carry our bags. Grateful doesnt even begin to describe my feelings at that moment! The island we are on is beautiful but pricey. It appears that getting to any beach in Thailand is somewhat of a challenge. We may just head to Bangkok and Chaing Mai for the holidays. Pics tomorrow. What a day!
