Left us on this day (Jan. 12) in 2011: Southern Rock guitarist Tommy Crain (cause undisclosed, age 69), best remembered as a member of The Charlie Daniels Band; he formed the group Buckeye in the early-70s that was invited to play the opening slot at Charlie Daniels very first Volunteer Jam festival (1974) in Nashville; when Charlie needed a new guitarist about a year later, he hired Tommy, who remained onboard for the better part of the next 20 years & co-wrote more than 50 of the bands songs (including their signature tune The Devil Went Down To Georgia, earning him a Grammy in 1980); he left Charlie in 1989 to work on his own projects, which at the time of his passing included Tommy Crain & The Crosstown Allstars…
