Left us on this day (Nov. 5) in 1997: Epic Soundtracks (Kevin Paul Godfrey, in his sleep - cause inconclusive, age ), best remembered as a founding member & drummer of UK experimental noise band Swell Maps; formed in 1972 with his brother Nikki Sudden, they foreshadowed the birth of post-punk; gaining popularity only after the rise of punk, they mixed such disparate influences as T. Rex & German progressive outfit Can, laying the foundation for future noise merchants like Husker Du & Sonic Youth; after disbanding in 1980, Epic went on to a cult-audience solo career, including The Jacobites (with Nikki), Crime & The City Solution & These Immortal Souls (with Rowland S. Howard), & collaborations with the likes of Evan Dando, J Mascis, Kim Gordon & Jeremy Gluck; As a singer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist, he released three critically acclaimed solo albums, beginning with Rise Above (1992), with two more released posthumously…
