Legal Metrology Department Kathua imposes Rs 27600 Penalty KATHUA, SEPT. 30: On the directions of the District Development Commissioner Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudary IAS & in view of ongoing Navratras festival, a team of the Legal Metrology Department Kathua under the supervision of the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua Ajay Verma and Comprising of the Inspector Legal Metrology Kathua Sh. Vicky Sharma and Dayala chack Devi Lakhanpuria conducted intensive checking of various Business establishment especially provisional stores, Karayana stores, Ration Depot, Sweet shops, Bartan Shops, Goldsmith, Veg./Fruit Seller, Cloth Shop, Scrap Dealer, Fertilizer Dealer, Dispensing Units, Welding Shops, Provisional store, Bakery shop, Manufacturer/ Packer at main Bazar Kathua, Chack Desa Singh, Parliwand , Patel Nagar, College Road, Hatli Morh , Kalibari Nagri, Sheehdi Chowk, Dayalachack, Chadwal, Chandwah,Chappaki, Sube Chack, Chan Arrorian, Hiranagar and adjoining Areas. During Inspection, various no. of traders were inspected. A total of 34 traders were booked for violation of various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997and Package Commodities Rules and 28 challans of booked traders were compounded and penalty of Rs 27600 was imposed on the erring traders during the current month. In one of the above incident, The Department also booked one Garam Masala Company for violation of various provision of J&K weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997 and Package Commodities Rules. After going through the numbers of Correspondence with the Company representative, the Company admitted its fault and on the assurance of the company to rectify the defective Package in future, the cases was Compounded by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua for Rs 10000. Besides this, Department directed all the traders to use only verified Weights and Measures for Business transactions and display MRP, PKD, Net Contents and complete address and Consumer care Number on the Commodities to be sold in package Form. The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent Consumers and also appealed to the Consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the Commodities.
