Legalistic (works-conscious) people react when they hear that they can no longer boast in their self-efforts to keep the law. The only people who appreciate grace are those who have come to the end of... their own efforts to save themselves. They have tried over and over again until they cannot meet the laws unyielding standard. Thats the time they are ready to receive Gods undeserved favour - His saving grace. Therefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Galatians 3:24-25.
