***Lengthy post warning...but very much worth reading*** So, those of you who know me best, know that I do not possess the mentality to ask for anything I dont need, and surely hesitate to do that even when I do. As for the gifts, such as Dominos cards, that have been sent to Zain, the people have who have done that love and adore him, and have done that on their own. Today, I was informed from a third party that once again I have been accused of using Zain to get things, such as this Disney fundraiser. I will start by saying this, I did not want to do that fundraiser because of my humble nature, I did not want to ask people for that amount of money. But what weighs much heavier than my pride, is a little boy who is my son, and who is sick, that has an opportunity to meet other children just like him and other families going through what we go through, and as well go to Disney and hopefully SeaWorld and Gatorland while were there, providing we raise enough money. That is a two in one deal, fun and meeting family who understands and who we have grown to love. So, after much thought, I decided that I would beg if I have to so that I can make this happen for my son and our family. Zain turns 13 on December 5th, and as some of you already know has had 18 sedation procedures, (most of which were surgical, gets an infusion that takes 5 hours every week (and has since March 2008), has had many hospital stays and countless doctors appointments. Thats just the medical side of what he endures, and added to that are obvious daily challenges of being different than other children. However, he does not let it stop him. He fights, with a smile, and so I think he has EARNED this trip to Disney. As well, Zains sister, Star, who is 10, endures the daily life of MPS. She so willingly takes a back seat so much of the times to accommodate Zains special circumstances. She does this with so much grace, understanding, compassion, and love. So, she as well has earned this trip. Some day she will lose her brother, and I want her to have this memory with him as well. What a magical Christmas Season to have in her memory with her brother. Supposedly I have asked for too much money. How can a family of 4 go to Disney World for an 8 night stay hotel fee, Disney park hoppers for 2 days, SeaWorld, Gatorland, car rental, gas, conference fees and a little spending money for less than $6,000??? (We did get the conference scholarship, which covers $700 of our costs, and thats why I changed our fundraiser to $6,000 from $6,500....keeping it in increments of 500). If anyone would be so compelled to know, I can surely break down the dollar amount for you to the exact dollar, AND show proof of costs. Another question I have already answered for several people since I started this fundraiser: Yes, Zain did have a Make-A-Wish trip at Disney a year after his diagnosis in 2007, but I can assure you that because of his scattered, aggressive, unfocused behavior back then, he did NOT enjoy any bit of the attractions other than Gatorland and SeaWorld, because of his love for animals. It was more stressful for us than anything because we did so much chasing him, and once he actually got away from us for a few minutes as we were in panic until we found him. He just wouldnt take part in much. Now, due to maturity and medicine, Zains behavior is MUCH more focused and manageable, and I do know he will enjoy this trip and it will log into his memory, unlike the last one. However, he did ask me for years to take him back to see those Alligators at Gatorland, because he said theyre still hungry, after feeding them 8 packs of wienies while he was there. So, I also feel he deserves that trip back to Gatorland and to see the dolphins at SeaWorld. I just cant believe that people can be so ignorant to the obvious...be so shallow and cruel as to say such things. I can assure you that if you had a child with a terminal illness, you would have an ENTIRELY different perspective on this. But, maybe not, because unfortunately there are people that cant be reached. And no, I have never been perfect and wish I could erase a lot of things, but I do know I have grown from my mistakes and I do not get a thrill out of placing judgment on others, and also I know I am a very loving Mother who would do anything to make her children happy, especially one who will pass away way too soon!!! So, for those of you that may have ever had this opinion or even a glimmer of a thought remotely close to the opinion of this person, I am kindly asking you to remove me from your friends list, because in my opinion, you are not worthy of looking into my sons precious face or much less reading about his life. I want to thank each and every one of you who DO understand and love and support us, and also those who have donated to our fundraiser, and those who would have liked to donate but cant afford to. I have said many times that we are financially poor, and why try to act like were not, because we are. But I have also said just as many times that money does not define who we are and that we are richer than the wealthiest of the wealthy through love and blessings....money can not buy that!!!! Shame on anyone who has said anything like this about anyone with such circumstances!!!!
