Lent 13 3-19-14 John 3:1-10 3Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.2He came to Jesus* by night and said to him, ‘Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God.’ 3Jesus answered him, ‘Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.’* 4Nicodemus said to him, ‘How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother’s womb and be born?’ 5Jesus answered, ‘Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. 6What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.* 7Do not be astonished that I said to you, “You* must be born from above.”* 8The wind* blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. Midday tomorrow spring begins even though there are still copious piles of snow. Winter is slowly loosening its grip, the temperatures are gradually rising, snowbells are showing themselves as the blanket of snow recedes, the woods seem to be reborn, and new life has begun to arise. How appropriate that the seasons change during Lent. As we examine our relationship with God, as we embrace a deeper spiritual walk, and as we spend more time in prayer and study we are reformed by the Spirit of God and reassured by the water of baptism. The blanket of frozen faith is melted in the warmth of God’s love and the closer we stand to the light of God the more clearly we see the kingdom of God. Are you willing to embrace the springtime of your soul in the fullness of faith becoming renewed and transformed in the incarnation of Christ’s love? What is God showing you today? Lord God, we thank you for sending your Spirit into the world to heal, renew and guide us into new life in you. Help us see the wonders of your creation all around us and allow us the joy of touching your kingdom everyday. Grant us eyes to see your glory and a voice to share your story. Amen.
