Lent 2014. Day #2 Thursday, March 6, 2014 1 Chronicles 21:24 But King David replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying the full price. I will not take for the Lord what is yours, or sacrifice a burnt offering that costs me nothing.” The cost of sin is death. From the very first, Adam and Eve’s bodies were covered by the skins of animals. Something had to die to cover their sins. Later, God introduced the law and the sacrificial system for the Israelites. Animals and birds had to die for the sins of the people, hence the term sacrifice. In today’s Scripture, David was sent to a place to build an altar to the Lord. When he got there, he insisted on payment to the landowner. David knew that if his sacrifice to God didn’t cost him anything, it wasn’t his sacrifice. The same holds true today with our giving. We should give sacrificially. Giving is a touchy and private matter but for full disclosure, I am not where I need to be. I have a plan to be where I need to be and I will get there shortly. It’s not about the money for me; it’s about being obedient. For me personally, I don’t expect my circumstances to change unless I become a Christian who read’s God Word and puts it into practice. It’s also a matter of stewardship for me. I think the prosperity Gospel some preach isn’t accurate. I believe that God blesses in more ways than financial reward. But one thing as we think about growing our church is to ask yourself what we could do if each of us were actually tithing Biblically. And what can each of us do to get there? Prayer: It’s my prayer that in this season of Lent, each of us will consider our giving and ask God what He thinks of it. I pray also that each of us will ask God to help us formulate a plan where we are giving Biblically, even if it means personal sacrifice. Amen.
