Lenten Reflection, Day 41...The Final Installment Its a good, Good Friday. After today, I can keep writing deeply, but a little less frequently I suspect. Today is the day that The Church observes the crucifixion of Christ, his death and burial. It was a painful day for Jesus. He felt abandoned by his Father and had to undergo the worst torture imaginable. A slow, bloody death. Why did he do this? Ive been contemplating what forgiveness means for me. I feel blessed beyond measure to know that my sins are forgiven. But what does The Cross have to do with forgiveness towards those that have sinned against me? Is Gods forgiveness of me linked to my forgiveness of others? I believe it is. I was reading Max Lucados book, In The Grip of Grace, and I found this passage. Where the grace of God is missed, bitterness is born. But where the grace of God is embraced, forgiveness flourishes....The longer we walk in the garden, the more likely we are to smell like flowers. The more we immerse ourselves in grace, the more likely we are to give grace. Could this be the clue for coping with anger? Could it be the secret is not in demanding payment but in pondering the payment of the Savior? Your friend broke his promises? Your boss didnt keep her word? Im sorry but before you take action answer the question: How did God react when you broke your promises to him?...The key to forgiving others is to quit focusing on what they did to you and start focusing on what God did for you. I confess that I remember everything. Any hurt Ive ever felt is permanently implanted in my memory. So this idea of letting go of anger and focusing on Christs sacrifice on the cross is really weighing on me. Im convicted. Perhaps thats the best spirit to have as I focus on the meaning of Good Friday. Blessings to you all and thanks for being my friend and traveling this Lenten journey with me. Ive been blessed.
