Leon Rodgers’ mission: End Ginebra’s six-year championship drought Barangay Ginebra San Miguel has not won a championship since 2008. Leon Rodgers, the man tasked to reinforce the team in the PLDT Home TVolution Commissioner’s Cup, knows all about the title drought off the league’s most popular team. “The statistics of the team, I’m pretty familiar with it,” Rodgers told InterAksyon in an exclusive interview. “Everybody knows our goal. Hopefully I can come in and provide what the fans want to see.” But while giving the Gin Kings a crown is the ultimate goal, Rodgers knows he can’t do it alone. “I cannot do it by myself. I’m gonna rely on my teammates and my teammates will gonna rely on me,” said Rodgers. “I’m just trying to do what this team needs. I’m trying to learn about my teammates. Ginebra is a fun team to be. They have so much talent. I cannot emphasize the way these group of guys make things easier for me.” He is already familiar with the PBA, having played in China alongside several former imports including Denzel Bowles, Donnell Harvey, and Rodney White. “Denzel was my teammate in China,” said Rodgers. “They all told me they had a great time here, how good the league was and the culture. I don’t think I can say different. I’ve had a good time since I arrived.” A big treat for Rodgers is the huge following of his squad, with fans showing their unabashed support for him. “It was exciting for me coming in.
