Leon Russell performing at the Stephen Talkhouse 7-30-14. A gallery of photos from my shoot, a wrap for now although I am sure some rainy days I will revisit it and find some more keepers. House was packed and I was relegated to the nook under the stairs a mere four to five feet away from Leon. I have completed more than a half dozen photo studies of him at the TH and together from various angles provide many different textures and poses. For me stealth is everything so I usually stay put in one spot and cycle through my four lenses for different perspectives. I had an opportunity to move to my left with a perfect angle on his face and hands, but declined to take it because I do not want to annoy patrons or take the performer out of their comfort zone. Unfortunately this does limit my coverage of the band. For me seeing an icon like him, relaxing and telling stories as if it was their living room (and he was joking last night that his living room is bigger), is one of the things that makes the TH special. So my main goal is to not apply my artistic slant and just accurately record what you would see if you were there.
