Lesson 21 - A Cup of Blessing / Essential #3: A Mother Plans "The beautiful mother of Proverbs 31 planned for progress in her roles (verses 15, 27), and you and I need to plan, too. Final outcomes are always in God’s hands, but the daily operation of the home is in ours. So let me share with you what I want (and wanted) for my family and how I plan (and planned) for it. Things as grand as these desires of my heart (and I’m sure of your heart, too) simply won’t happen without planning for them! First and foremost, I want the dynamic presence of the Lord in my home. This means filling my heart first. It means scheduling some prime time for God’s Word and for prayer so that I bear the mark of a woman who is beautiful in God’s eyes. For God’s presence to be obvious in my home, my homemaking, and my dealings with the family, He must be present in my own heart. The next thing I wanted as a young mom was to pass on faith in Jesus Christ to my children (grandchildren count here, too). Once again, planning helped. I planned for regular church attendance as well as for daily devotions with my girls. I even, in prayer, planned to speak of the Lord to them and asked God to help me be aware of opportunities to point my daughters to Him. My plans included surrounding Katherine and Courtney with people who shared my faith. Believe it or not, I also had to plan to pray so that I could pray for them regularly! I planned bedtime rituals and found Bible books and Bible stories to read to my children. Passing on your faith in Christ to your children is certainly worth some planning. A pleasant atmosphere in the home creates a beautiful background for happy memories. Because I want the warm atmosphere and the good memories it fosters, I plan for it. I plan the meals, including how I’ll set the dinner table and make it beautiful. I plan for order in the home, for the housework, for the laundry, and for the upkeep of our clothing so that life is calmer. I plan surprises, too, so that life at home is fun. If all this planning sounds like a lot of effort, remember that no work of art is slapdashed together. Artistry calls for planning and design, and so does the work of art called “Home.”"
