Lesson 3 - A Solid Rock / HER LOYALTY “The heart of her husband - TopicsExpress

Lesson 3 - A Solid Rock / HER LOYALTY “The heart of her husband safely trusts her.” Proverbs 31:11 I once read about a couple who exchanged their wedding vows on top of the Rock of Gibraltar, the famed rock island at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. The groom explained that they wanted to found their marriage on a rock. Well, far better for a husband than saying one’s vows on the Rock of Gibraltar is establishing a marriage on the rock of Jesus Christ and the bedrock loyalty of his wife! When a man marries a woman who is mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually strong, he can confidently build his life, his work, and his home, trusting in her rock-solid character to be a cornerstone for his efforts. But, the most exciting rock I saw was a cornerstone. I took a picture of it (in fact, I’m looking at it as I write) because God speaks of His women as “cornerstones” (Psalm 144:12 KJV). I chose the cornerstone at the excavated base of the south end of the Temple Mount, the site of Herod’s Temple (where Jesus worshiped). Supporting the massive foundation of the Temple, this ancient cornerstone has sustained the weight of 75-foot-high stone walls for more than 2,000 years. Twenty feet long, the standard height-of-a-man high (six feet), and at least eight feet across, it still holds the weight of the entire Temple wall. This remarkable cornerstone had been carefully selected because Herod wanted a firm foundation for the wonder he was building. This most important building had to be stable, so Herod chose a rock that was more than adequate enough to be the cornerstone. Definitely a solid rock, it has not budged despite 2,000 years of battles, earthquakes, elements, and the erosion of time—and neither has the wall on top of it! Like that wall, your marriage can be strengthened as you, my sister in the Lord, become—by His grace—a virtuous woman of strength who stands steady as a rock. The cornerstone I have a picture of may not be beautiful and most of it is buried and out of sight, but Herod’s Temple was splendid! I want you to carry this image of a cornerstone with you through this chapter because the picture of a wife standing as steady and strong as a rock is at the heart of Proverbs 31:11.
