Khan was born on 2 November 1965 in New Delhi, India,[1][2][a]and brought up in Mangalore for the first five years of his life.[24][25] His grandfather was a Chief engineer in Mangalore port in 60s.[26] His father, Taj Mohammed Khan, a Pathan, was an Indian independence activist from Peshawar, British India, present day Pakistan.
