Let Go and Let God Exodus 14:13 “Moses spoke to the people: ‘Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and watch God do his work of salvation for you today. Take a good look at the Egyptians today for you’re never going to see them again’ ” Exodus 14:13 (MSG). As Christians, we often find ourselves in the same place as the Israelites did as they left Egypt: Caught between an army of problems in hot pursuit and a sea of troubles directly ahead. And, like the Israelites, we often long to return to the “comforts” of our old lives, our lives of slavery, when everything wasn’t so topsy-turvy. This verse reminds me of the best way to overcome the obstacles in my life: “Stand firm and watch God do His work of salvation for you today.” I often try to face the army of problems on my own, picking up my toothpick and bravely holding it up, pretending it’s a mighty sword. But, throughout the pages of the Bible, God makes it abundantly clear that my job isn’t to defeat the enemy, but to stand firm and watch Him do His work of salvation in my life. This beautiful promise releases me from the heavy burdens of fear and worry because I know that God is on my side, and I am already victorious. But, truth be told, it’s often difficult for me to drop my tiny toothpick and hand my army of problems over to God, allowing Him to do the heavy lifting; but I can tell you that when I do let go and let God, I feel the weight of my ocean of troubles fall from my shoulders, and then I am able to stand firm, God by my side, and watch Him part my sea of troubles, leading me through safely on dry ground—performing mighty miracles of salvation in my life.
