Let Us harness our dynamism, energy and innovativeness to develop Arochukwu Ohafia Federal Constituency. The energy of young people has historically driven major global transformations and has always constituted a real force for a positive change. It is time to bring change to the political landscape of Arochukwu Ohafia Federal Constituency. Overtime, our dear Arochukwu Ohafia Constituency has lacked quality and innovative representation. We have had people that are either in the House to rejuvenate their depleted financial pause or lack the mental rigour to engage in a robust negotiation and horse-trading required to attract Federal attention to the Constituency. Because the resources that sustain Nigeria are in short supply, the competition among the component Units in the Country becomes fierce and leaves only the swift-footed and dexterous ones favoured. These kind of men has eluded Ohafia Arochukwu federal Constituency and has resulted in near total neglect of almost all the facets of economic and social lives. The Arochukwu-Ohafia road is a practical testimony to the neglect of our Representatives to their responsibilities. For an upward of 13 years, this long stretch of road has remained in a deplorable state, yet we have Representatives who sit idly in Abuja and concern themselves only with pocketing quarterly allowance. They prefer expending their energy in pursuing MDG Projects where they have the liberty of either nominating Contractors or converting some of the MDG items to personal use and sometimes monetary alternatives. Since 1999, the Ohafia, Nkporo, Arochukwu, Abam and Abiriba regional Water Schemes have kept re-occurring in National Budgets without monetary release and actual execution. From 1999 till date we have continuously had Representatives and we do not have cleaner water run in our Communities. It is rather sad that a Community like Ohafia with the second highest population in Abia and the 3rd largest city after Aba and Umuahia does not have a running pipe borne water. Arochukwu as an ancient kingdom deserves much better than they are getting. There is an over-value of power by our present Representative. Political position is a deliberate decision to offer oneself for service to the people. It is not a promotion to a demigod status or an imperial leadership position. It is not an initiation into a cult of money mongers. Political power is held in trust for the people and the people should not be alienated in taking decisions that affect them. A Representative is a people’s servant. His office belongs to the people and not an abode for select few and a castle that requires a gate pass to come in. I am bringing innovative representation to Arochukwu Ohafia Federal Constituency. Apart from the primary duty of legislation, I am going to effectively engage all necessary MDAs to make sure that all Federal presence within our Constituency are not only taken care of but also upgraded to meet current challenges as a result of population growth. Almost all the Federal Ministries in Nigeria have one service to deliver to Nigerians if well appraised. I will go beyond the traditional road, water Ministry to initiate a holistic development of both human and material infrastructure of our Communities. I will work towards increasing the GDP of Arochukwu Ohafia axis. To this end, I will collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism to re-designate and reposition the “Long Juju of Aro”, as a tourist site and income earner for Arochukwu and the adjoining Communities. Kaoline and Limestone are two investigated natural deposits found in the Ajali soil formation of Ohafia Arochukwu but none of these has been exploited for the benefit of the people. I will activate both public and private interest to commence action on possible exploration using the most environmentally friendly technologies. The young people are going to be the pillar of my representation. I am not going to constitute myself into a god figure so that my Office becomes a shrine only for the initiates. I will embark on an aggressive youth development programs more than mere buying of keke, okada, sewing machine and barbing clippers close to elections. My engagement with young people will run all through my representation and my office will be an extension of youth parliament of our Constituency. I will institute a mentorship program to develop and imbue into young people the skills and qualities of self confidence and leadership. The secret message communicated to most young people today by the society and the anachronistic ruling class around them is that they are not needed, that the society will run itself quite nicely until they - at some distant point in the future - will take over the reigns. Yet the fact is that the society is not running itself nicely. Nothing is moving because the rest of us need all the energy, brains, imagination and talent that young people can bring to bear down on our challenges. For society to attempt to solve its desperate problems without the full participation of young people is imbecile and we in Arochukwu Ohafia Constituency will not be imbeciles. With this I declare my interest to represent Arochukwu Ohafia Federal Constituency come 2015. I promise to leave my seat if after two years of my representation and Arochukwu Ohafia Federal Constituency does not leave the fringes to become a front line Constituency in Nigeria. Elder Barr.
