ISLE OF MAN CONSTABULARY MEDIA RELEASE TITLE - Fatal Road Traffic Collision Time and date of issue: 00.40 05/08/2014 NPT or Department: NNPT, for RPU and WNPT Contact Officer: Andy Kneen PS 185 Ramsey Police Station 812234 Text start: Police, Fire and ambulance attended a road traffic collision on Main Road, Kirk Michael at about 6pm today, Monday 4th August 2014. The collision involved a dark blue Range Rover sport motor car and a cyclist. The woman riding the bicycle was an Isle of Man resident. Tragically she suffered fatal injuries, and was declared dead at the scene. Both car and cycle had been travelling from the western end of the village, towards the general direction of Ballaugh. The Range Rover was driven by another local woman, who had an infant in the car with her. Paramedics examined both driver and child at the scene, although shocked they required no treatment. The road was closed until 11.55pm, to allow Police collision investigators, scenes of crime officers, and DOI vehicle examiners to conduct enquiries. Sergeant Andy Kneen would say “The Police are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed this collision, and who have not yet given the Police their details. There are early indications that the lady who died was in a party of three cyclists who had travelled along the TT course from Douglas. We also believe that the car had also travelled a similar route. We are keen to hear from anyone who noticed either party before they reached Kirk Michael. I like to thank the many local residents who rallied round to render first aid, and assist the emergency services at the scene. I would also like to thank the travelling public and residents of Michael for the forbearance shown by them with regard to the road closure.” The circumstances of this fatality will be reported to the Coroner of Inquests
