Let it be known to all and sundry: I hate reading through diplomatic correspondence. We know that modern diplo-speak is vague and noncommittal by nature. One need look no further than the ongoing crisis around the Black Sea to see that. Now I want you to think about how diplo-speak reads using English thats between one and four centuries out of date. Or, worse, diplo-speak using German/French/Russian/Japanese/Dutch/Spanish which is that old and is then translated into English of varying ages. Its maddening. Worse, the British tended to use nobles to man their Foreign Office, which means all these people feel that flowery, meaningless language is not only their birthright but a keystone of their societal position. Kill me.
