Let me ask you this and please respond in the comments: How many of you are approached by legitimate Talent Managers/Agents? If you were, would you respond with a welcome reply and give them the courtesy they deserve to listen to what they have to say? Would you tell them rudely to go away as you are a DIY band and you dont need any help because you cant see spending it on anyone that can potentially help you? Lesson for the day: No manger/agent gets paid more than 10% of the performance. If anyone is paying more than 10%, then that is the Artists personal choice. Some artists feel that their agents provide a service and obtain gigs that they can not get on their own, so they pay more out of gratitude. Also, agreements with clients are CONFIDENTIAL. No one should be quoting numbers saying I can get you X amount of money because thats what So and So gets. If you ever feel that someone is not legitimate, check them out with the State Board (in California, Talent Management/Booking Agents fall under the Labor Code - all you have to do is enter the name of the person in question and see if they pop up. If they dont, they are not legal.) LAWS vary from state to state so be sure to look them up where you reside. Here is the link for California: https://dir.ca.gov/databases/dlselr/talag.html
