Let me preface my remarks by stating that I actually am an old white guy. Regardless, I find it frightening that not only have race relations not improved during my lifetime, I often believe they are getting worse than they were when I was a child in the 60s. I believe this is related to the tremendous fear some uninformed and ill-educated people felt when we elected Obama as President. I was so proud that Americans had ignored race for once. My dismay has only grown as I see more covert and even overt racism on a daily basis. I am at a loss to explain why so many police are being allowed to escape trial by jury for their actions. I suspect it may relate to the close relationship between prosecutors and the police. I also suspect that prosecutors do little to present complete evidence to a grand jury. Finally, many of the laws surrounding police activities seem to be written in such way as to allow them to escape from the consequences of their actions. I can see changing the laws as critical. Divorcing local prosecutors from empaneling grand juries and reserving that task for outsiders seems equally important. What to do about the poor people looking for simple answers from people like FoxNews, or Rupert Murdochs outlets for complex questions is beyond me. I suspect we need to teach our children better critical thinking skills. Religious bigotry seems to be apart of it as well. I am so saddened by what I see as an increasing divide between people over things that should not matter to a thinking person with a little compassion. -OldWhite Guy
