Let me throw this out there. I have at least one FB friend who I believe is on his way to being a leader of an anarchist cult or at least at odds with the government, and at least one who is a flag waving pledge reciting 2nd amendment enforcing patriot. Everyone else is in the middle, so this is not meant to cause hate and discontent but I cant stop you from seeing it from a different point of view… Today some people are sharing where they were I didnt partake on others post since my story was not all that interesting (hung over, asleep in the couch, burning some end of FY leave in Rota Spain). I missed the first and just barley the second plane hitting the towers. I think that today if someone chooses, they should take a minute to reflect. I do not think that should be a entire day of shutdown. Even a just a year after these events, my Mom and sister flew to Europe on the very next 11 September to visit me in Spain, going through the very train station in Madrid that was bombed in March 2004, (some believe due to Spains part in the coalition of the willing). That bombing was Spains own 9/11 in proportion and effect. So to me, today is not about one 11 September, it is about all those that follow. The death toll of the original one in 2001 has been exceeded by the cost of the actions to seek revenge, liberate parts of the middle east, or to bring justice, whatever mission you accept the events of this day are ongoing. Maybe because I didnt get to see the first part of the events live on TV like watching a movie, I am more cynical of the weight of the day. Instead I respect those that respected the past while moving forward in spite of those that tried to take this day away from us. Also recall this is not an American event, the Prime Minister of Austrailia was in DC during the attacks and had a first hand account. Maybe that is why they have stood with us through it all. As mentioned above like Spain, other countries have given support and paid prices beyond combat deaths. There are some still today that think we should hunker down and avoid an inevitable repeat, or those that want to go on a rampage because some business forgot to lower the flag to half mast. I say keep it up high, let the world see we look and move to the future otherwise those that willingly sacrificed since 2001 have crossed on to Valhalla in vain. Rant over.
