Let the Light In: St. Dorothy’s Rest Chapel Stained Glass - TopicsExpress

Let the Light In: St. Dorothy’s Rest Chapel Stained Glass Window Restoration The chapel at St. Dorothy’s Rest was built in 1905. It has served as a spiritual center for the St. Dorothy’s community. Over the years, the chapel has suffered from the elements and it now shows signs of wear and tear, in particular to its stained glass windows. Fortunately for us, Richard Kemink, a member of our Board of Directors, was moved to do something about this. Richard took it upon himself to learn the art of stained glass, to research the Arts and Crafts movement, and to design replacement windows. While the original windows were made of opaque glass, Richard’s design allows light into the chapel while casting a rainbow of color on the interior surfaces. After designing and constructing the first window, Richard decided that the camper community should have a hand in the process. He enlisted the services of campers from The Lucile Packard Organ Transplant Hospital Camp to help complete the project. Richard provided a template and glass shapes and allowed the campers to use their creativity. Each pane is a one of a kind piece, and when all windows are installed, they will be a reflection of the community spirit that is so cherished at St. Dorothy’s Rest. St. Dorothy’s Rest invites you to be a part of the renewal of this beautiful, historic building by sponsoring a window. A plaque commemorating your gift will be installed beneath each sponsored window.
