Lets Build Our Community Up! Open House Sunday March 16, 2014 Meeting Minutes Attendees: 10 Representations 3 Females 7 males All PHS-Woodwards/BC Housing Meal: Ham, vegetarian teryaki skewers, rice, coffee Agenda: 1) LAPP (Local Area Planning Process) - Hendrik gave an summary of key points that came out of the year plus long process (September 29, 2012 it was made known to me), stated that some items were misleading, for instance the figure, 40% social housing, only really equates for 20% housing at welfare rates. 2) A local documentary, Somewhere is here, debuted last Tuesday at SFU. I am familiar with a woman named Marinas involvement from previous dealing through my previous employer, but am unable to list her last name or title. If someone wishes to do so in the comments section it would be appreciated. 3) We were told about an article being written about a former Woodwards resident, Elata, in the latest Megaphone Magazine. Upon just checking Megaphones cover page title, In Over Our Heads: Vancouvers mental health crisis, one can safely assume there is mention that Elata received a psychiatric eviction for allegedly assaulting a male staff. Its good to hear she is being heard. 4) Portland Hotel Society in the news. Although everything is speculative, the community discussed the PHS current audit woes. To be fair, nothing about the conversation will be posted publicly as no official decisions have been announced. 2 people did report that on Friday, the manager of the Roosevelt was here discussing issues with our staff. A search online revealed that the Roosevelt is another PHS building, so it was likely just maneuvering by PHS management. 5) Last Sundays Meeting Minutes - We served 19 Lasagna and Ice Cream meals. I specially invited all the people in the PHS Woodwards volunteer or work in the building, Stephanie and Tracey (office/clerical), Mark (buys milk for cereal program), Dan and Joselito (soup and pancake programs), Karl (breakfast program), Daye (cook), Barb (Fruit and Vegetable program), Jeffrey (open house and breakfast programs), Karen (Breakfast and soup programs), Richard (Art, kd, misc.), Patrick (Thanksgiving Day Dinner Server), Rob (Open Houses-Tables and Chairs), Kevin (Assistant Prep/Setup/Teardown). I forgot to especially invite but wontt forget to mention Colleen (recycling sorting), Hendrik (came), April and Richard ( AHA MEDIA photography and promotion). Thank you to everyone that helps TPPRS, in particular, and the dtes community in general. Anyone that wants to build up the dtes community by addressing issues that face our community as a community, is welcome to attend our open house each Sunday at 6 pm. Please RSVP 778-893-8462. Sincerely, Tina Marie Tomashiro Executive Director
