Lets be clear about this. The president says he will act on his own because Congress has not passed legislation to address the crisis of illegal immigrants flooding across the border. In fact, the House has acted, by passing legislation that will directly address these problems, help secure the border, and eliminate DACA (the Obama policy against deporting illegal immigrants who are as old as 30). The Senate should follow our lead. According to the Border Patrol, most of the illegal immigrants are arriving because word has gotten around that if you make it to America illegally, youll be allowed to stay. The number of unaccompanied minors crossing the border has increased ten fold since 2011, prior to DACA. If the president grants amnesty to millions more on his own, that will be DACA on steroids. It will NOT fix the problem, it will make it dramatically worse, as millions of people in other countries will believe they can safely break our laws and get away with it. What the president should NOT do is compound his disastrous DACA policy with the even greater enticement of amnesty. And he certainly shouldnt do it while pretending to address the border crisis with his actions. He will be purposefully ripping a larger hole in border security, all the while acting like hes helping to sew it up.
