Lets debate How exactly does physically abusing a child cause respect? Unless fear = respect. There is never a reason to beat a child, ever. People quote the Bible, saying Spare the rod, spoil the child. but actually that isnt in the Bible, its taken from a poem, its an interpretation of Proverbs 13:24 which reads, “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.” (Proverbs 13:24) But the word for rod is shebet which refers to the staff that shepherds used to tend their flocks. And they didnt beat the sheep, the carefully guided them. So Proverbs 13:24 is talking about guiding our children, about actively showing them the right path, it isnt advocating that we beat them.
