Lets get something straight.. because i cannot understand how persons can compare a sales tax in the US to VAT in The Bahamas.. THERE IS NO COMPARISON when you consider that the cost of living here is extremely high and we do not get quality or reasonable quantities for our buck here! The prices are lower in the US even after tax is added and the quality of the product is far better for MY buck! Are u people slow or something? Then theres my Customs exemption that this government better not touch! People are preaching about shopping at home but yet they have failed to consider that some of us cannot afford to! If they wanted to collect taxes they should have started with themselves because many affluent members of society DO NOT pay their light, water bills or Real Property Taxes on time or ever!! Keep letting these politicians bleed yinna dry! The government had enough money to bring retired persons back into the civil service who clearly serve no purpose because Government services are shittier than ever.. and yet they put the burden of VAT on the backs of the Bahamian people some of whom can barely sustain themselves and family now. Sad part is many of you are quite content with the scheme of things because we are one day away from hardship and there is no guarantee that there will be transparency or if this will dig us out of financial debt especially since certain politicians are taking our money and giving themselves contracts possibly while others front for them and yet theyre telling us taxation is necessary in the same breath.. SMH
