Lets have a discussion about ad lib singing. Part of me feels bad for Don McLean, because everybody always wants to hear the same old song. So, in a way, I cannot fault ole Don for singing very different melody lines (which he almost always does). But then the other part of me says why destroy a classic. If your role as an entertainer is all about the audience experience, you have to ask yourself what do THEY want to hear? The answer would most likely be the way it was originally sung. So, where do you stand? Are you happy when you go to a concert and cannot sing along (or enjoy it) because the artist has rearranged the melody lines? Or do you appreciate the fact that they are giving you a different version?
