Pass out - Become unconscious ; fainted Ex :I have passed out a couple of times recently 5. Pull through sth - to become well again after a serious illness, especially when you might have died Ex :They said the operation had been successful and they expected his wife to pull through. 6. Put sth out - Dislocate by making a bone move from its usual place Ex :The old lady is in great pain because she has put her hip out 7. Contract (formal) - to catch or become ill with a disease Ex :He contracted malaria while he was travelling. 8. Break down - Becoming physically or mentally ill because of an unpleasant experience Ex :Her health broke down under the pressure of work. - to lose control of your feelings and start crying Ex :He broke down and wept when he heard the news. - to fail Ex :Negotiations between the two sides have broken down. - (OF A MACHINE OR VEHICLE) to stop working because of a fault Ex :The telephone system has broken down. 9. put someone on something - to say what medical treatment someone should have Ex :I was put on a low-fat diet. The doctor put him on a course of antibiotics. 10. Drop off - to start to sleep 11. fight off - to stop someone who is trying to attack you Ex :The woman managed to fight off her attackers. - Trying hard to get rid of Ex :I’m fighting off a sore throat 12. Take it out of sb - to make someone very tired Ex : Digging in the garden certainly takes it out of me these days. 13. Pick up - to catch an illness from someone or something, caused by bacteria or a virus Ex :He picked up malaria when he was visiting the country on business. 14. break out in a rash/spots/sweat - to suddenly have spots or sweat appear on your skin Ex :She broke out in a rash after eating some strawberries. 15. Bunged up (adj) - If your nose is bunged up, you find it difficult to breathe because you have a cold. 16. Pass on a sickness to sb - to give someone an infectious illness Ex: I took the day off work because I didnt want to pass on my flu to everyone in the office. 17. Get over something to start to feel happy or well again after something bad has happened to you Ex :It can take weeks to get over an illness like that. 18. Nod off - to begin sleeping, especially not intentionally Ex :After our busy day we both sat and nodded off in front of the TV.
