Lets talk about highway driving for a hot second. It appears as though our country in the midst of a major recession...of driving ability. I sway from long-winded Facebook statuses, but this time I just cant resist. Lets get started. Typically, there are three lanes to most major highways. Would anyone like to argue that? Okay. The left lane, better known as the fast lane, is commonly used by those going a bit faster than the speed limit. The middle lane is commonly used by those going right around the speed limit. The right lane, most widely referred to as the slow lane, is commonly used by those who pretty much would be more interested in propelling their cars with their feet, much like Fred Flintstone. Now, I was always under the assumption that if youre driving in the fast lane and someone approaches from behind, going faster than you, protocol is to move over and let them pass. Afterwards, you can assume your original position. Whats up with people who refuse to let you pass? Do these people believe that they are destined to control the speed of others? Are they civilian police? They are driving 71 mph in the fast lane and they believe that this should be good enough for everyone. You want to drive 77 mph? Sorry. Not today. Grandpa Joe, in his red Buick Bonneville, has decided that you cant. This is the person I cant stand. This is the person that has inspired me to imagine and wish for an invention that allows instant driver to driver communication, outside of the realms of the occasional middle finger. The cherry on top? Attempting to pass Grandpa Joe by using the middle lane...only to realize that hes now MAGICALLY doing 82, making it impossible for you to pass while going your original speed. To these people I say: YOU MISSED YOUR CALLING. You were CLEARLY born to be a NASCAR driver. Most of you may be thinking that Ive got a small case of road rage, but I assure you, this is not the case. I just want to get where Im going, safely and in decent time, while respecting other drivers and following the unwritten rules of the road. Cant we agree on that? This has been a public service announcement...and I already feel better. Happy Holidays!
