This causes any sediment or hard calcium deposits in your tank to be washout. Other maintaining is heater type specific. Such as with Electric should have the wiring checked and elements check yearly. Gas should have the filter on newer heaters cleaned, and the vent and gas lines looked at occasionally and tankless water heater should have their heat exchangers flushed yearly.
