Letter: HH is Losing on Jan. 20 The past two months had subjected Zambians to a political cacophony as 10 candidates were vying for the presidency of Zambia. It is clear that the election had narrowed to a two horse race between Edgar Chagwa Lungu of the ruling Patriotic Front and Hakainde Hichilema of United Party for National Development. The support and acceptance PF president Edgar Chagwa Lungu has received countrywide will surely send him to plot one come 20th January, 2015. HH must start bracing himself again in the cold as leader of the third largest political party while Edgar takes Zambia to a new journey of development and prosperity. Since the election is now fait accompli and Edgar Chagwa Lungu will be the president of our beloved country in a week’s time, let us have a quick dissection of the two leaders and why Edgar will come out victorious. Edgar and HH have different unique predispositions and both will continue to contribute to Zambia’s social, political and economic emancipation at different levels. Edgar is a lawyer and a seasoned politician who is the Member of Parliament for Chawama constituency in Lusaka. He currently has two cabinet portfolios as Minister of Defense and Justice. Edgar has also acted as President of Zambia in the absence of our beloved late President Michael Chilufya Sata. He is actually the one who was left with the instruments of power by President Sata but voluntarily and swiftly surrendered them to the current Acting President Guy Scott to pave way for a peaceful transition. On the other hand, HH is a successful businessman who has made part of his fortune through the privatization of mines. He has business acumen and this is his area of strength. However he has no political experience which is one of the deciding factors in a competitive election. HH has never been elected to any political position, not even at a branch or ward level. He abruptly rose to the UPND presidency after the death of the son of the soil Anderson Kambela Mazoka, owing to his financial stamina. Mazoka left him about 48 MPs but due to his inexperience in politics, that number has drastically reduced to a paltry 27. Edgar has won the hearts of Zambians due to his humility. While HH with pride has continued to portray himself as a wealthy and stubborn individual with an I, me, myself syndrome, Edgar has shown us that he is a humble servant and an ordinary person, approachable and ready to listen to everyone regardless of political affiliation. The scripture tells us in the book of Proverbs 16:18 that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before the fall. Whosoever exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted, Mathew 23:12. Now how did HH lose the ploy in this election? He prematurely declared himself as a winner in this election even before clearing his name about the widespread allegation of his involvement with the secret society, the freemasons. Zambia is too conservative and would not allow anyone suspected of having any involvement with Freemasonry, any secret movement or cult to rule them. He did not do his job well on this matter and suspicions keep growing. One would believe such allegations because he has not helped himself through his careless utterances on his opponent’s health. He has continued to portray himself as a giant of epicaricacy. Zambians are people who do not rejoice in the sicknesses or misfortunes of others. Most Zambians see HH as someone who always delights in the ill health of his political opponents. During the time of President Levy Mwanawasa, HH kept campaigning that he was sick and not fit to lead the country until finally Mwanawasa died. It is preposterous the poor widow of the year Maureen cannot remember anything while trotting and pirouetting like a headless chicken for HH. During the time of President Sata, he was at it again, and Sata went to rest in eternal peace. And now that Edgar Lungu will be president, he is at it again with his followers that Edgar is sick. The question is, are HH and UPND only experts in death and rigor mortis? These are the characteristic that have damaged HH’s political aspirations. It is not a secret that a pig will always remain a pig even when you apply makeup on it. However, Zambia is a Christian nation and shall remain so. In Edgar, Zambia shall have another leader who will uphold the christian declaration. Let us all Zambians support Edgar and continue living in unity as a humble and one people. Zambia, now is the time to make history. Come in masses and make this victory a reality by voting for PF Edgar Chagwa Lungu on 20 January 2015.
