Letter of the Week: M Numbers Review: 1-10 Featured Books for the Week: “The Mitten”, “If You Give a Moose a Muffin”, “Marvin K. Mooney, Will You Please Go Now”, “Mouse Mess”, & “Owl Moon”. 5 senses: Sense of Touch Arts & Crafts: 2 year olds- Tree Trimming, Spiffy Snowscape, Christmas Candy, Craft Stick Reindeer, Friend of Frosty. 3 year olds- Tasty Trees, Scented Ornament, Mosaic Menorrah, Pretty Paper Poinsettia, & My Winter Senses Book. Featured Circle Time Activities & Games: Finding Mittens (A container will be filled with white foam packing material. Hidden in the snow will be mitten cutouts that are each labeled with either an uppercase M or a lowercase m. Real mittens will be set out and two containers labeled with either an upper or lower case M. A volunteer will put on a pair of mittens, find a cutout and place it in the corresponding container. Play continues until everyone has had a chance to try); Where’s the mouse? (A picture of a mouse will be hidden in the room for the kids to find. When a child finds the mouse, they can hide it while the rest of the group is not looking); Move that monkey! (Kids will have a great time trying to get a toy monkey out of the mud and back into the grass. Several brown pieces of paper and one green piece of paper, along with several cards labeled with either an upper or lower case M. Kids take turns flipping over two cards. If the child flips over an upper and lower case M, everyone shouts “Move that monkey!”, and the monkey moves to the next paper. Play continues until the monkey get to the green piece of paper); Mr. Moose’s Menu (Kids will learn to identify the beginning /m/ sound as they identify different foods that start with the letter M. I will explain that Mr. Moose only has foods on his menu that start with the letter M. A volunteer will listen as I say two different foods, one having the beginning /m/ sound. Once they correctly identify the correct word, I will list it on the menu. Play continues until everyone has had a turn adding to the menu); Mad about __at words (Kids will learn about rhyming words in this activity. A poster board will be labeled with “____at”; enough for each child to make a word by choosing a beginning letter. Once they place their letter up, I will sound it out so they can see and hear the word they made); On the list (Little ones are sure to be tickled when they notice that their names begin with the same sound as other words! A length of red paper titled “Santa’s List” will be posted near the circle-time area. To begin, I will present a student’s name card and have the kids say the name. The name will be set aside as I hold up two picture cards, one with a picture whose name begins with the same sound as the student’s name. The kids say the name of each picture, then I will prompt them to identify the picture whose name has the same beginning sound as their classmate’s name. After they identify the correct picture, that child can tape their name to Santa’s list); Jingle Search (Cotton balls will be placed in an empty soda bottle along with several jingle bells. The lid will be hot glued shut. The bottle will be placed available for play along with a magnetic wand. A child moves the wand along the outside of the bottle to make the jingle bells move through the snow). 4 Year Olds The 4’s will be working on letter Kk and #6 this week. We will do a key rubbing on letter K, make a Kissmas stocking and work on several holiday projects. Our puppet this week will be Kicky Kangaroo. We will continue using M and M’s for Santa Bingo and roll the dice addition. To work on our large motor skills we will once again read our Reindeer training story and also pretend to kick a ball for the K sound. We will stack cups and each child will chose a cup and if a K is on the cup they will pretend to pour tea from a kettle into the cup. We will also blow a kiss for our K pictures. We will continue working on the order of numbers 1-9 and letters A-K with our stocking game (the stockings are hung up on the board out of order and the class decides the correct order). We have begun our song Five little Bells and will act the song out with different bells. On Friday, show and tell will be child’s choice.
