Letter to the Editor from The Multicultural Community of Animal Lovers in SMA Title: Respect, Protection and Compassionate Care of Animals in SMA Thousand of animals are suffering abuse, neglect and mistreatment at this very moment in San Miguel de Allende. This past Spring, with no public explanation, the Department of Ecologia banned residents, community members and volunteers from the Ecologia Dog “Pound”. The Ecologia “Pound” is not opperated by a licensed Veterinarians, in opposition to the Regulations for the Protection and Care of Animals in San Miguel de Allende (April 18, 2011), which clearly states that the Ecologia “Pound” is a Veterinary Clinic that works in cooperation with the Animal Care Community in San Miguel de Allende. Community members have united together in person as well as a wealth of information and many heartfelt comments on Animal Map SMA – a Community Facebook page (https://facebook/groups/AnimalMapSMA) We, the multicultural community of San Miguel, continue to respectfully ask the Municipal Government of San Miguel de Allende and the Governor of the State of Guanajuato to take positive action on behalf of animals in SMA. Yet, there has been no word from the Administrative Officers of San Miguel de Allende. On July 1st, the Governors Public Relations representative stated publicly “Hola, el Gobierno no tomará represalias en contra de ustedes, al contrario, El Gobernador quiere saber de qué forma los puede ayudar y cómo puede trabajar con ustedes respecto a este tema” - “Hello, the Government will not retaliate against you, on the contrary, the Governor wants to know how we can help them/you and how we can work with you on this issue “ Yet, no further word or action. Once again, we respectfully request immediate cooperation and action from the Director of Ecologia and the President of San Miguel de Allende the Cabinet of San Miguel to cooperate with the Multicultural Community of San Miguel de Allende in regard to the Protection and Compassionate Care of Animals.
