Letter to my local MP: Dear Eleni Thank you for the Christmas wishes but unfortunately your Parliamentary colleagues have just ruined my Christmas. I am a full-time, fixed-term public servant currently in a Level 3 role. Despite the fact that I have been with the same business unit for two years (first in Level 2 contracts and now in a Level 3), permanency is but a dream. I am also a single parent to three children. With my eldest child heading into high school next year, I have been busy career planning with a view to paying Catholic high school fees for one and then two children. With the workforce renewal policy announced today by Treasurer Mike Nahan, I despair of ever being able to better myself and provide for my family. If I were to apply for a role currently filled by a Level 5, I would earn LESS than I do now. If, when my contract ends, I were to go for a role with similar responsibility to my current one, I would be paid $40000 a year. Thanks to your Federal colleagues I am already facing a significant loss in Family Tax Benefit next year, and cant afford to be fussy about jobs since my youngest child is six, placing me in the mutual obligation zone with Centrelink. So as you and your colleagues enjoy your Christmas break, spare a thought for the families whose Christmas the Liberal Party of Western Australia has ruined. Kind regards Georgina Ker
