Letter to the Editor – An open letter to Mr. Sweeney and Mr. Burzichelli by Mr. Wayne Wagner As a resident and taxpayer in Salem County NJ, I share your concern about the quality of healthcare available to Salem County residents. I appreciate your concern rising to action over the current state of the operation of the Salem Co Memorial Hospital and its operator, Community Health Systems. As our political representatives, it certainly falls within your oversight to involve yourselves in these conversations – perhaps in discussions with Community Health Systems, other regional healthcare organizations who may have an interest in purchasing the [Memorial Hospital of Salem County], perhaps even lobbying or discussing with the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation as to their future plans and involvement in improving healthcare provision within the county. So, for the conversations that you have begun and attention you are drawing to the need to continue to improve access to quality healthcare within Salem County – Thank You. However, of late, your involvement has begun to take some very dangerous turns and I believe someone needs to call you out, publicly, on some of these recent developments. The Salem Health and Wellness Foundation is a non-profit organization with a board of Trustees charged with the fiduciary responsibility of overseeing their funds and executing their mandate within our community.
