Letting Go of the Wrong Kind of Jealousy Dr. Jon Redmond Introduction: When we think of jealously, we think of something that is bad. And sometimes jealousy is bad. Jealousy is when you fear losing what you have. Tonight, we will study the three types of jealousy mentioned in the Bible. Interestingly enough, two types of jealousy are actually good. Only one type of jealousy is bad. #1 - Three Types of Jealousy... 1. the jealousy *of God*. *Exodus 20:4) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5) Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; *Exodus 34:14) For thou shall worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: *Deuteronomy 4:24) For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God. 2. *Our* jealousy *for God*. *2 Corinthians 11:2) For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3) But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4) For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. #2 - Two things we need to guard in our relationship with God... 1. Time 2. Gods Name ((Cont. #1)) 3. *Our* jealousy *of others*. *2 Corinthians 12:20) For I fear, lest when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: 21) And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed. #3 - Three life facts on who you are... ☆1. Your identity comes from your relationship with God/Jesus Christ ☆2. Your value in life comes from the love of God...God loves you!! ☆3. Your security comes from the providence of God.
