Richard Quest – CNN’s ‘businessman’ has always been an interesting figure and character to watch on the screen once every week. All the times I’ve had to watch and listen to him in the past 6 years or so, I’ve never heard him make a statement as striking as the one he made around this time last week. Well, Quest was quoting economic capitalists, as he claimed. Whether he constructed that brutal statement for the capitalists themselves to lay claim to or that he was quoting ‘anonymous’ capitalists, I would not know. And this was what Richard Quest quoted of the capitalists: “It is always gainful to keep the poor poor”. It might look trivial but I read meaning into anything I see on that facility for controlling and brainwashing the minds of English-speaking/understanding Africans called CNN, especially now that their sponsor, US has brought its mat and pillow to the Nigerian floor. Something in me refuses to believe that Quest has no intended connection to that statement of all times but now. And who are even these ‘poor’? Europe ko? Asia ni? Africa? Abeg, make I hear word? No be person wey dem deceive na di loser? This is how my mind has been re-shuffling that statement: “It’s always gainful to keep the fighters fighting” “It’s always gainful to keep the missing missing” “It’s always gainful to keep the bombers bombing” “It’s always gainful to keep the uneducated uneducated” “It’s always gainful to keep the North northern” Now, add your own and tell me your thoughts. *Sneaks via Azu Uno*
