Letting the Past Go "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past." Isaiah 43:18 Finding true freedom in Christ requires letting the past be the past. But many of us aren’t able to do that. Though we know intellectually Christ has freed us, our memories haunt us, and we repeatedly put ourselves down for things we did. Some things we’ve kept to ourselves and pray that no one ever finds out. Some things we’re ashamed others may already know. Whatever it is. Whenever it was. Whatever is dragging you down; now is the time to let it go. You can learn from your mistakes and be disappointed you made them in the first place, but if you want to be free, you cannot keep pointing to them as evidence of your unworthiness or failure. That’s not what God wants for you. Whatever holds us hostage keep us from enjoying a deeper, fuller relationship with Christ. Surrendering your past is not about dwelling on the things you did. It’s about putting it under the blood of Jesus and focusing on the One who looks beyond those things into your heart. Right here… right now… ask God for His guidance, strength and power as you release the hold any actions or thoughts have on you. Let the past be the past. Get back to the future and concentrate solely on the One who can heal and lead you. Prayer O Lord. Let me lay down my past burdens at your feet and leave them there. Cleanse my mind of sinful shadows and fill me with the joy of your grace and salvation. Amen.
