Libre turns 13 years old today. I remember rejoining the Inquirer - TopicsExpress

Libre turns 13 years old today. I remember rejoining the Inquirer 14 days before the my tiny papers first edition was to come out. The company was still hiring staff, a focus group was still in the works, and we were all scrambling for content. But we made deadline. Oh, Libre was a hard sell: ad agencies were skeptical and slow on the uptake. After a year, we came out in the red. But our bosses were ecstatic, our financial losses were way below expectations. By our second year, we were in the black, this time, way ahead of expectations. It was unbelievable how our account executives Jen Rockwell and Izelle Medina, along with the guys from the business unit, special mention ka Roselle Fortes Leung, made this happen. From a bloated staff of eight, editorial is now a lean six (although there are those who would argue that we are more bloated now if a few waistlines were factored in). One of our original reporters, Luige del Puerto, has, for the past few years, been consistently winning awards for the Arizona Capitol Times (where he is now assistant editor) in the United States. A curious thing also happened just as Libre was comfortably on its way to adding on years, our readers have suddenly decided to be a lot younger. Oh, such interesting times ahead. Happy 13th, Inquirer Libre!
