Lies or ignorance? Me (to our vet): Your practice has told me that the vet CANNOT routinely scan cats who are brought in to the surgery unless the person accompanying the cat (whom you would EXPECT to be the real owner) gives consent for the cat to be scanned. Surely the pets owners identity can only be established by scanning? The person bringing in the cat should not object to the cat being scanned if he/she is the genuine owner. I am the genuine owner of Chester and I hereby give you permission to scan him if he comes to your surgery with someone other than myself. If the cats looks like Chester, please scan him. Vets4Pets Livingston: Hi Melanie - I am afraid that information is incorrect - patients are routinely scanned. If someone chose to refuse to have their pet scanned then I dont think legally we are allowed too but we would have to ask for advice from the rcvs and likely follow it up as suspicious behaviour. Me: Thank you for response. Perhaps all your staff are not aware of your policies ? I can assure you that your receptionist told me 2 days ago that vets at your practice would not routinely scan cats unless you were told by customers that the cat was found/straying. Indeed ***none of my 5 cats have EVER been scanned at registration or at ANY time in between in the last 16 years at Livingston*** I think that speaks for itself. With the council chucking dead cats unscanned into landfill, what hope do we have of finding our cat? Micro-chipping relies solely on cat charities and honest people being able to catch lost or injured cats and taking them to a vet. vetsgetscanning.co.uk/
