Life-changing news! SOCI Film nights are happening again! Our first screening will be happening Thursday October 16th, 5pm ANSO 134. Well be watching a documentary called Detropia. It is a stunning film, incorporating art, opera, and imagery from Detroit in the wake of its financial collapse. The film follows several individuals living in Detroit, including an African-American woman who explores areas of the city that have been abandoned, a bar owner and union leader in the auto manufacturing sector, and a group of artists who are exploring the social dynamics in Detroits in creating thought-provoking pieces. In addition to meaningfully engaging with many sociologically significant pieces including race, gender, and class relations, this film can be of interest for students from a variety of disciplines, including art history, film studies economics, political science, and many more. There will be a discussion following the screening facilitated by Avi Ames on the themes of the film. A trailer for the film is available at https://youtube/watch?v=QF4164GXCro Facebook event page: https://facebook/events/1703486683209101/?context=create&previousaction=create&source=49&sid_create=316397643 Event is free for members (membership available at the door for $2) Free popcorn, drinks for attendees
