**Day 8 - #SKTAidConvoy2014 Diary** Countries Traversed: Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, and Turkey Total Miles Covered: 2600 miles Total Convoy Duration: 69 hours We prepared to leave early in the morning at 8am. All ready and raring to go, unfortunately we didn’t leave until 11am, a full 3 hours later. Consequentially, this meant we would be arriving in Konya a full 14 hours later. We still hit the Istanbul rush, and were moving snail pace in the urban jungle for quite a while. It was an interesting drive, as we were escorted by the Turkish counterparts of SKT Welfare; Yardemeli (commonly referred to as Yardys (!)). Alhamdulillah, they organised 2 stops for us, giving us time to “freshen up”, and pamper us with a selection of foods. However, it was the penultimate stop in Ankara which really summed up the love, hospitality and etiquette of the Turks. HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: The reception we were given in Ankara was an epic moment. Not only was it the police escort, nor was it the usage of lights and sirens (ambulance, camera, action), but the amount of love the people of Turkey showed us was beautiful. They share concern and love for the people of Syria, and although many of us were lost in translation, the language of love has no barriers, Alhamdulillah. So it was then, that after 2 press conferences, we were indulged to a beautiful meal, in a beautiful setting, on a beautiful day. Take a minute to help change someone’s life forever.
