Life has roses and thorns Recently I visited a friend. As usual, he appeared cheerful and contented. But little did I comprehend that he was a parent to a differentlyabled child. My eyes were damp as I found the kid in his own world away from the lust, greed and desire of erudite human beings. For a while, I went into deep meditation and realised that we require all these three elements to achieve our purpose of reaching the Almighty. Scriptures also affirm that the almighty showers extraordinary love to such children and plans ahead when he creates them. I recapitulated a sermon which stated that all people are created in the Almighty’s image, and we bring Him opulence by being who He fashioned us to be. One of the plans of the Almighty could be that these children touch other peoples’ lives in one way or the other. For people who incite at the drop of a hat face astounding task in fostering these sanctimonious souls. Almost daily we read news about road rage, jealousy, murder and what not, which occur due to exasperation and disturbance of one’s soul. But when we observe these God-gifted children, it brings us solace, as these children remain away from the humdrum of adversities just like a saint. My friend said they felt contented in the company of their son and loved to be in his service. My reverence towards my friend has increased manifold. Raising a ‘special child’ needs more inner strength and mental make-up than anything else. Unfortunately, when we encounter sickness, disability or ailments around us, we blame all these obstacles in our life to our Karma or even the Almighty. For a while, we fail to understand His powers and forget the fact that everything happens for our good. And the sooner one realises this fact, the better it would be for a happy and contented life. After all, life is not all roses; one has to learn to live happily with thorns as well.
