Life imprisonment: Families of two Kashmir youth seek Mumta’s intervention Srinagar, July 18: Families of two Kashmiri youth, Sheikh Imran of Karfali Mohalla, Habba Kadal and Sheikh Farhat of Bemina Thursday alleged that there wards were implicated in false cases by Kolkatta Police. Scores of people led by separatist leader Zafar Akbar Bhat staged protest at Press Enclave Sriangar and appealed Kolkatta Chief Minister Mamta Benerji to look into the matter and deliver justice to the families of these two youth. Pertinently, Kolkatta court awarded life sentences to two Kashmiri youth a few days ago which evoked sharp reaction from separatist and mainstream camps in Kashmir. Protestors were carrying placards and banners seeking justice for these youth. They were demanding the revocation of all black laws existing in Kashmir Valley. The mother of Shiekh Imran, Mehmooda Banoo told CNS that her son was just 17 years old when Parimpora police picked him during nocturnal raid and after interrogating him for days handed him over to Kolkatta police. “My son had never gone to Kolkatta and we fail to understand why Kolkatta police sought his arrest. It’s all rubbish that my son was carrying arms while the fact is that he was innocent and made a scape-goat,” said his father Shiek Abdul Rehman. Hajra Banoo, the mother of another youth Shiekh Farhat said that during the dead of night on December 16, 2003, a police party from Parimpora police station led by then Station House Officer Parvez Ahmed raided his house and arrested Farhat. “He was ruthlessly interrogated and later on handed over to Kolkatta police,” she said adding that her son was a student of Iqbal Memorial Institute who was never a part of militancy. “From last nine years our sons are bearing the oppression of Kolkatta police and now we appeal the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mumta Benerji to look into matter and deliver justice without any delay,” the families of the youth said.
