Life is a Joke - LoL! It is not everyday you receive in your Facebook feed two seemingly unconnected posts but really connected! Firstly, I saw a post from Swami Paramarthananda followers ( courtesy and posted by Sri Subramaniam Balaji). This is about Adi Sankaras Bhaja Govindam. In essence, in our lifetime we do everything other than contemplate on who we are! For more on that please read this: Quote: बालस्तावत्क्रीडासक्तः तरुणस्तावत्तरुणीसक्तः | वृद्धस्तावच्चिन्तासक्तः परमे ब्रह्मणि कोऽपि न सक्तः ||७| Bālastāvatkrīḍāsaktaḥ taruṇastāvattaruṇīsaktaḥ, Vr̥ddhastāvaccintāsaktaḥ parame brahmaṇi kopi na saktaḥ. - 7 There is an account of how man spends his life in this verse as well. Bālastāvatkrīḍāsaktaḥ, as long as he is a little boy, all he can think of is play. Taruṇastāvattaruṇīsaktaḥ, as a youth he is preoccupied with the sensuous pleasures. Vr̥ddhastāvaccintāsaktaḥ, once he grows old, he has nothing else but cinta, worries and anxieties. Therefore, parame brahmaṇi kopi na saktaḥ, no one is to be found here, who is attached or committed to Brahman. -Unquote Incidentally, this was one of the first slokas taught to us at High School, by our own inimitable (Late) Sri K T Sundarasampath Kumara Acharya! He taught us this sloka and not just that, he also dramatized each of the characters in the sloka; how we behave as children, how we behave as youth and how we behave when we grow old. It was just a brilliant way to make a point! On the eve of teachers day, I offer my salutations to Sri KTS and to all other teachers past and present from whom I have learned not just lessons but also how to lead a life! Anyway, the other post I saw was about modern research and how a man/woman spends time in a life span! How much time we spend sleeping, how much time we spend on work, how much time we spend on shopping etc. The research has categorized about 30 ways we spend time in our life.
