Life means death for thousands of PA - TopicsExpress

Life means death for thousands of PA prisoners Problem Pennsylvania has the 2nd most inmates serving life without parole. And state law gives no possibility of parole. Nearly all serving life terms will eventually die inside prison walls. Fact Pennsylvania is home to 5,121 inmates serving life without parole. They represent about 10 percent of the states prison population according to the state Department of Corrections. Controversial issue First, it’s morally problematic to punish people for things that they both intended to do and did not do. Secondly, some folks believe that the victims families should take precedence over those people who have been convicted and sentenced to die behind bars. Possible ways to address the issue Call for a study on the issue with input from sources including Secretary of Corrections and members of the Board of Probation and Parole. Look at changing the law to give some long-serving lifers a second chance at freedom. Take a few minutes and watch the video of “lifers’ in prison.” Hopefully, after watching the video, it will open your heart and mind, to look at lifers in a different light. Some people deserve a second chance, and we at least want to see a process in place where people have the opportunity to seek freedom through commutation or parole.
