Life with Ally & Timmy: Special Edition #1 And...finally the day has arrived! After 30+ days of wait, ending with excited kids jumping about at midnight declaring, Im so excited I cant sleep!, we are on our way to the great US of A. During this month long wait, Ive found myself saying, You kids are so lucky. You get to go now when youre a kid. Going to Disney World has been dads and my childhood dream. You guys just wait 30+ days, whereas dad and I have waited 30+ years! (Timmy corrected me that hed been waiting 3 years for this). Unlike my namesake in the British comedy, Allo Allo, I zeet not say this only once... but stopped when I realised I sounded just like my parents back then. And just like back then, the words seem to fall on indifferent ears. Rest assured, mum & dad, I am grateful for the leg-up in life that you have provided me (though I often did not show it then). Anyway, I have it on good authority that it is due to great parenting that kids feel entitled to good things; know that good is on their parents terms and not theirs; and that such good things do not come easy, and they are grateful for them. After all, I do not worry about the basic necessities of life, nor about my future - that is in the safe hands of my Father, who wants only good for me. I know that this life (with all its joys and disappointments) is His blessing and that more good stuff is awaiting for me, but not necessarily in the manner that is most comfortable for me - but it is for my good and I am grateful. I can never match the price that was paid for me, but I can pay it forward and in fact, it is expected of me to do so. So I am assured that though the kids have not fallen prostrate at my feet in gratitude for this wonderful trip, with proper guidance (aided by lots of prayers!), they will grow up to not take such things for granted. And they will bless others as they have been blessed. They will learn that with great blessings, come great responsibilities. Listen carefully, I shall say this only once.
