Lifting techniques/tempos There are a lot of different exercise techniques & variation out there and it doesnt always have to be right or wrong. Form for me is key if you want to live a healthy lifestyle and minimise injury risk. Typically I teach a nice controlled tempo to my exercises with a even tempo on the concentric (lifting part) and eccentric (release part) Phase of the movement whilst not locking the joints out at the end of the movement. This allows a constant tension on the muscle which translates into a bigger pump on the muscle (my favourite way to train). This does not however mean I never mix up my tempos/ techniques as I often vary tempos chucking in explosive moments or negative reps (slow eccentric phases). To summarise you have to learn what works best for you. Its you that lifts the weight its you that should be changing in composition. Vary techniques try different tempos see what feels best. I must stress about the importance of doing this correctly though. If your not sure get some help! Dont be a gym muppet who swags about thinking there the dogs bollocks because theyve just bench 3 plates. Everybody else just thinks you bollocks! Lift well and you will gain far more respect and more importantly look better with less injuries.
