Lighthouse Beach (LB) has had a great deal of clean-up attention - TopicsExpress

Lighthouse Beach (LB) has had a great deal of clean-up attention in the past week. The weather conditions on the beach have improved considerably with the morning high tides the only thing slowing the clean-up. Most of the large foam is still located near the north part of the beach and that has been an area the inmates have been concentrating on for removal. We still need assistance in that area if anyone is available to bag it and carry it up to the base of the large privately owned block beach access. The owners have very graciously given Oregon State Parks permission to use their access for staging debris. Parks will provide a crew for removal from there. If you take it off the beach Sunset Bay State Park has a dumpster in the shop yard. If the gates are closed you may deposit it at the gate and we will pick it up. Bags are available at the base of the surfer trail near the south end and on the landing of the private beach access with the large block stair structure on the north. The small bead Styrofoam is the challenge and we are using both the blower and vacuum of a leaf blower. Other more tedious methods are by sweeping or raking into piles and then bagging. This part is for the truly dedicated! The high tides will be around noon on Thursday, January 16; 12:30 PM on Friday; and 1:05 PM on Saturday. Most of that beach is hazardous 2 hours before and 2 hours after the high tide so please plan accordingly. The surf has been rough for the last several days making it more dangerous just before and just after high tide. It is better to be on the beach on a falling tide so you may want to plan your trip at that time. I have added a tide table link below if you forward this to others not as familiar with the coast. saltwatertides/dynamic.dir/oregonsites.html The weather looks good until Monday, January 20 with the only concern high swells. Coastal forecast link is below. wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/getprod.php?pil=CWF&sid=MFR&wfo=mfr OPRD is working with the dock owner for removal of the structures that are on the beach. It is ultimately their responsibility to remove it from the beach. The total effort in response to the massive amounts of Styrofoam has been fantastic. It is truly a community effort in getting this mess cleaned-up, but unfortunately the job is not done yet. Thank you all for your help. Calum R.
